Connecting to your Local Network Devices While Connected to the Claremont VPN (Windows)
Best practices for internet security include maintaining a secure connection to the Claremont network using the virtual private network (VPN). Certain positions, projects and functions require that the user has a secure connection. This is established using the Cisco Secure Client AnyConnect VPN.

While connecting to the VPN is frequently automatic when the workstation is on campus grounds, users will need to make sure that they are connected to the VPN when working from a remote location. However, some remote workers have reported issues with being able to use devices such as printers or wireless monitors on their local area network (LAN). Your local area network includes everything from your internet router or modem to your computer, peripherals and even your smart devices. This includes devices connected by a physical cable or using WiFi.
Fortunately, the solution is easy. Follow these instructions to ensure that you are able to access your local devices while connected to the Claremont VPN.
1. Access the Cisco Secure Client AnyConnect application by clicking on the ^ icon at the lower right of your screen.

2. Next, click on the application’s icon

3. Log into the VPN normally by clicking on Connect.

4. Once connected, tap on the Gear icon to open the Advanced window.

5. In the Advanced window, select the Preferences tab (first one on the left).

6. Click on the check box next to “Allow local (LAN) access when using VPN if configured)”

7. You can close out the Cisco window and use your local devices
